This Just In

Beauty queen and actress found
Face down, lifeless
Never really did belong

(overheard)
"C'mon sweetheart - big smile, shoulders back
Bust out - show your assets - can't go wrong"

Just a pawn in the machine
Swallowed pills, pride, and words
Stayed silent like a good girl

(overheard)
"Sorry, please, just one more take?"
"I'll be on time from now on, I promise"
"Fired?"

Never had a chance. Unless. No.
Never did.

  2. This happens far too often.

(FYI- I did find this a little difficult to read- white font w/ this background)

  3. Creative and of course, as always, beautiful use of the words to fashion a tribute to what sounds like "Marilyn." Bravo! :)

  4. Disturbing and sad that to so many this is reality. Well done Sharon.

  5. This reminds me so much of Marilyn Monroe. Heart breaking indeed.
Re Laurie's comment, I also find it difficult to read too.

  6. Courageous write. "Like a good girl" hurt the most. Thanks for taking us here.

  7. Too many have walked this path, and far more have failed to care. Thank you for reminding all of us,

  8. Thanks to so many of you for coming to my big elephant (he's not really "mine" but a Blogger template, I just like to pretend) and commenting so promptly. I did sorta have Marilyn in mind (and all the other hopefuls) when I wrote this so your comments are particularly insightful.

Thanks also for telling me about problems with reading the font ... I've only recently made the background transparent so the big guy is more visible and it's been hard to find a colour that shows up on him - let me know if this is any better. It's fun to fool around with the new fonts and colours (and design templates for that matter) now that Blogger has them and you don't need to know html or any other computer mumbo jumbo to work with them.

Thanks again all - I will be around later today to read and comment on yours.

  9. Sharon, you have written about something that happens more often than we even know. Eloquent, but also very sad.

  10. Sharon, this is well written. The wordle words get lost in your poem; and yes, I could picture Marilyn...but I am sure there are many lives who, unfortunately, would fit into the lines of this poem.

  15. Sharon, I wish I could say this was only Marilyn, but really, there are so many who have made it most of the way up the ladder, only to fall down and hit every rung. Knew some of them back in the day, and it's always a heartache to lose a sister in this was. Strong write, babe.

As to font, still not sure. The background? Could it be lightened a touch? I have problems with complicated web pages, because the crowded ones are distracting and hard to keep track of... Peace, Amy
